Larry Mason Biography
(En Español)

An accomplished racecar driver, Mason has earned numerous championships in both open and closed-wheel race cars while setting multiple track records along the way. Mason is characterized as a driver who displays the highest levels of desire, determination and persistence in seeking his goals. After breaking both of his legs and ankles at the Dallas Grand Prix (due to suspension failure) in 1990, Mason returned to racing one and one-half years later and won his first amateur race. Mason won his first professional race entered after the accident at the 1992 Del Mar Grand Prix. In 2001, Mason made his CART Dayton Indy Lights debut and scored a top-ten finish in the crown jewel Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. In his Indy Racing League rookie test at Phoenix International Raceway in a Firestone Indy Lights race car, Mason unofficially broke the track record in his first time ever on a one-mile oval!

Some of Mason's proudest race finishes didn't come on four wheels, rather on two legs, his own. His rehabilitation was proven complete as he now competes in sprint triathlons! Mason's fitness accomplishments include three Presidential Sports Awards, first place in the Torrance Beach Team Triathlon, first place in the Redondo Beach Super Bowl 5K Walk, and first place in the TRW ES&TD 3K Run/Walk event. Mason is a brand ambassador for Polar Heart Rate Monitors and has also been a member of the exclusive PowerBar® Team Elite program. Mason's academic credentials are impressive. He graduated from Cal State University, at Long Beach, where he received his degree in Engineering and Industrial Technology (Electronics Option). Mason was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society for graduating in the top 15% of all university students in the United States. Currently running a successful marketing and communications business (LMR), Mason is also a part-time driving instructor and facilitator with Precision Dynamics International, AMCI, Apex, Sean Jones Inc., Fast Lane Racing School, and Advanced Driving Dynamics, Inc.

Mason has experience as a track announcer and host for both professional and amateur events and served as the associate producer of the Motorsports International TV show. A full member of the Motor Press Guild and the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association, he’s currently a national award winning broadcaster, journalist and photographer. He was a contributing editor to SoPac News magazine and his writing has also been featured in Sport Compact Car and Motor Trend magazines and two newspapers where he was the automotive editor – the Hawthorne Outlook and the Wave Community Newspapers. Mason brings a wealth of PR skills that is essentially uncommon among most professional drivers. He is respected among his peers as a knowledgeable resource in the field of motorsports marketing, promotions and fitness where he is an ACE-Certified Personal Trainer. Mason has been widely published in these fields. He earned his Advanced Toastmaster-Silver certificate from Toastmaster's International, and successfully completed the business program at the Institute for the Development of Entrepreneurs.

LMR Marketing-Communications has operated commercially oriented sponsorship programs for successful corporations such as Valvoline, Firestone Tires, Polar Heart Rate Monitors, Bell helmets, Triathlon Lab, and Good Neighbor Pharmacy. LMR also assists pageant delegates with competition interview skills and personal fitness training.

Mason is a winner of the Formula Mazda Challenge West Championship and the SCCA Southern Pacific Division Championship. The Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires Championship is the final step in ‘The Mazda Road To Indy.’ Competing here will help fuel Mason's quest to achieve his dream and goal of racing in the Verizon IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis 500. His skills both on and off the track are superb, and his sights are clearly set on Victory Lane!
