Two Top Five Finishes Mark a Solid Start to the Racing Season for Team LMR!

Fontana, CA - Larry Mason opened the 2014 racing season at Auto Club Speedway for the SCCA U.S. Majors Tour in the Western Conference by scoring back-to-back 5th place finishes in his Team LMR Formula Mazda. This was the first time out with this car as an independent team. In a strong and competitive field Mason’s consistency was a positive way to start the season although he’s not entirely satisfied with the results. “We always want to show up to any event as a threat to win, and that didn’t happen this weekend,” said Mason stoically. On the other hand, we were able to score some contingency sponsor prizes and that’s always good!”

Although the weekend started out strong for Mason with the second quickest time in the opening practice session, he wasn’t able to carry that speed through to qualifying and the race. Of the drivers who finished in front of Mason, all have multiple years of experience with these cars and all but one have won at this track.

“We had high hopes and expectations coming into this event, but the competition was very strong. The bottom line is that we now know exactly where we’re at speed wise and we will be working hard to improve for our next event.

“I really want to thank Fred MacIntosh, Marcos Arocho, Jim Webb, Cheyne Lipfert, and Sonia Mason for their tireless work over the weekend. Everybody was working as hard as they could to help propel Mason to the podium and it just didn’t work out this weekend. However, we rolled the car back onto the trailer having learned a tremendous amount and are eagerly anticipating the next event.”
